   My Philosophy of Teaching

I believe in reaching students at an early age for them to develop a clear understanding that the learning process is ongoing. During the middle-level years, this is the most influential period during their lives because they are learning who they are as individuals. They are opened to learning new and different strategies.  The foundation for self-development is paved, and teenagers learn to differentiate between their goals and purpose in the world. As an English teacher my obligation to encourage students to think critically, to be expressive through their writing as well as exploring their creativity. Learning is a process that occurs over time. My ultimate purpose in teaching is building a friendly teacher-student environment that allow students to grow, and to understand that their education is value. In today’s society, a strong education is the key to opening doors to being success.

Not only is education important for being successful, but it teaches important life skills for students. You are able to explore “what works for you and what does not work” for you as an individual. Such skills of collaborative learning, brainstorming techniques, and writing techniques, it is important students to grasp the concepts they are taught and build off of it in the future. Understanding what environmental factors work in your learning. Establishing your drive to be successful, setting short-term and long-term goals to track your progress. Collaborating with your peers to obtain feedback and building a strong student-student relationship. Learning healthy social skills and developing emotional support. Promoting diversity within the classroom, that leads to being able to maneuver in society. We have to accept children and their family members as individuals with respect to diversity.

Encouraging students to develop a strong character, good morals, habits and developing strong independence helps establish a solid pathway to understanding the complexity of society. My philosophy is to be truly educated is to have the ability to have an open mindset to learning and being open to learning new concepts. In order for learning to be efficient, students should interact with their peers to gain better understanding to concepts they are being taught. ‘“Teaching’ and ‘teaching well’ are too often at odds” (Kirby & Crovitz 1). As a teacher we are trained to teach, but going above and beyond our titles is what make us great teachers. Exploring new techniques is what makes us as educators able to teach well. If we encourage our students to have an open mindset to learning, then we should have an open mindset to gaining more knowledge. Teaching well shines light on my passion for my determination to make a different in the lives children; the future of our world.
